ALISON CRITCHLOW
Alison's paintings explore the unseen rhythms of life. She combines drawing outside with a free and intuitive method of working, allowing the paint to 'become' the subject. She is interested in resonance and the way colours and marks can contain the essence of lived experience.
Time spent in different environments informs the paintings, recently Dove Cottage garden and the Wordsworth Trust collections in Grasmere, the Isle of Iona and the Solway Firth. The passage of time and the potential for transformation within creative process are central themes in her work.
Alison trained at Falmouth School of Art, Cornwall and recently completed three years postgraduate study with Turps Art School in London. She has spent time painting in some wild and remote locations often visiting the Outer Hebrides and making a trip to Arctic Greenland in 2010. She was artist in residence on the Isle of Iona in February 2017 and has exhibited widely throughout Britain, including ING Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, Gracefield Arts Centre, Fairfield Mill, Brantwood, Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh, the Manchester Art Show, Bianco Nero and Penwith Gallery, St. Ives. She has work in several private collections including Royal Bank of Scotland, Ernst and Young and Edinburgh Hospitals Trust. In 2017 and 2018 she worked with the Wordsworth Trust on their 'Weather Words' and 'Poetry and Paint' projects.
